Working in animation doesn’t always mean working an animation desk. If you love the craft but are interested in a career that involves business, public relations, promotions, travel, and networking, animation marketing might be a great career for you.

The animation industry was abuzz in January of this year with several personnel changes at big U.S. animation studios. The Dreamworks studio nabbed many of the headlines: its CFO left in late 2006, and the studio named a new vice president of marketing starting in 2007.

Animation Marketing

The new head of marketing at the Dreamworks Animation studio, Anne Globe, has a laundry list of responsibilities, leading a huge department at a huge studio. Take a look at some of them:

Other jobs in animation marketing can be found in industries that use animation as a marketing tool. The use of 3D animation for web and other media marketing has exploded over the last decade, and becoming an expert in it before pursuing a career in the business of marketing it is a great career idea.

Getting the Degree

If you love animation but also dream of a career in business, animation marketing can be a great career path. Graduates from animation school with experience in the industry often have the best opportunities, but entry level positions aren’t out of the question. One great way to get your foot in the door of an animation studio is through an internship position while still in animation school.

With competition among animation studios heating up, marketing is more important than ever. Find your niche with this hybrid design-business career.
