Planning for a healthy economic future, Singapore is supporting the growth of digital media within its borders. By attracting schools that provide top-notch animation training, as well as animation companies that will need to hire skilled animators, Singapore is confident that it will reap the profits of this fast-gowning industry. Within weeks of one another, both Digipen, a top animation school, and Electronic Arts, a top gaming company, announced plans to open facilities in Sinagpore.

Digipen, Top Animation School, to Open Campus in Singapore

Digipen, a U.S.-based animation school, is planning to open a campus in Singapore, and hopes to start classes by 2007. According to the school, Singapore's tough laws protecting intellectual property presented a compelling reason to make Singapore their Asian hub. In addition to opening an animation school, Digipen is also planning to conduct R&D work on both their curriculum and software. They feel comfortable that this work will be protected by Singapore, despite being located in a continent known for intellectual property abuses.

Animation Training Expected to Attract Industry

Singapore is excited to have Digipen in the country. They want to attract top animation students looking for high-quality animation training into their country in order to encourage digital media companies looking for talent to also set up shop there. With the industry as a whole having taken off over the last few years, it's not surprising that Singapore has chosen to support the digital media industry.

Computer gaming and animated motion pictures have both become very popular due to the technical advancements made in computer animation, and the salaries earned by those with computer animation training have risen. By attracting big players in this industry to their country, Singapore can boost their GDP, create well-paying jobs, and ultimately boost their coffers through increased corporate tax revenues.
