Movie Web Sites

I've become fascinated by the web sites that are produced for movies. The purpose of these sites are to give you a "taste" of the film, with it's attendant visual style, and to give away just enough of the plot to make you want to go and see the film.

Web Site Design Budgets

I presume, as most films have massive promotional budgets as well as massive production budgets, that the studio employs an appropriate web site design company, but many of the web sites seem to be simply bits of the film stuck together with stills. If you are creating films with serious animation features and special effects, it must be possible for web site design companies to do more than lift short scenes, ready for download - although these can be entertaining.

Web site design has become more and more sophisticated, and during the last two to three years there has been a real revolution in the use of animation, music, graphics and special effects for web site design. Many web site design companies specialize in certain kinds of graphics, and it must be possible to find a fit between the animation used in a specific film, and animation to give similar effects to the film's web site.

So now I have a mission - to find a film web site that does just enough to make me really want to go and see the film, but also conveys the impression that it is more than simply one or two scenes lifted from the editing room, some rather crude web site animation, and a voice over.
