They Rule (Flash application)
They Rule is a fascinating Flash app that allows you to create interconnected maps of the United States' biggest corporations, using individual members of their board of directors as the connections. You can drag companies, institutions, and directors onto a blank canvas and expand them to explore connections, use the "Find Connection" tool to instantly find a path from one company to another, or load up maps created by other users (ranked by recency and popularity). In other words, you can kill a LOT of time here.
The current version was just released, but I remember seeing the original version a couple years ago. It's still an engrossing visualization tool and, for me at least, somewhat disturbing -- especially when you see how just a handful of people (mostly unknown to you and me) wield tremendous power across America's most influential companies (often sitting on multiple boards).
