Newsmap (Flash application)
Newsmap is a ridiculously cool Flash application that creates a visualization of Google News and breaks the news out by category and region. It's an amazing use of Flash to transform an existing set of data into something visual that makes patterns, relationships, and even biases more apparent (i.e. how much more coverage Iraq gets in US news compared to other topics, etc.).
I'm impressed by how quickly the data is pulled together and displayed, as well as the potential for customization (comparing regions side-by-side, adding/removing categories, etc.). Really a top-notch demonstration of what Flash can do these days.
