The Road to Successful Directing
Although he has a litany of blockbusters to his name: Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., Jurassic Park, and Saving Private Ryan, Spielberg didn't always travel the easy road down his career path as a director. In fact, despite the fact that he was an avid movie buff growing up, Spielberg was actually rejected by top film schools. But, with some great perseverance and directing determination, he finally got his start as a TV director for Universal.His first movie Duel, aired on TV, and his third movie, Jaws, catapulted his directing career into full swing. Since then, he has never looked back, and rightly so. In 2005, leave it to Spielberg to direct one of the few blockbuster movies of the year, War of The Worlds, which grossed $583 million at the box office. Along with his success as a director, Spielberg also owns the animation division of DreamWorks, which adds more than $100 million to his current $2.7 billion portfolio.
