And the Oscar Goes To...
Animation and the Academy Awards
The Academy Awards are the oldest and most sought after awards given to achievements in film. In 2001, Shrek became the first film to win an Academy Award for 'Best Animated Feature.' Achievement in animation had been recognized before in other categories, but the upcoming 78th Annual Academy Awards in March will be only the fifth year that animated feature films have their own category.
About Animation
Animation is a filmmaking technique in which each frame is produced individually--either generated as a computer graphic or hand-drawn as an image or model. Making an animated feature length film (70 minutes or longer) is a very labor-intensive process, but the field of animation in today's world goes far beyond the traditional animation of decades past. The development of new technologies in computer animation has made the process of animated film production much quicker and smoother, taking film animation to new levels.
Your Career in Film Animation
The popularity of films with animation and computer-generated imaging has led to enormous employment growth in the motion picture industry, especially for people with training in animation, or an animation degree. With an animation degree, you may be qualified and in great demand to enter the field of motion picture animation. And maybe one day, it could be you walking down the red carpet to accept an Academy Award.
