"Garfield" Movie Animator Profile

Who says animators can't get a few minutes of fame? The New Orleans Time-Picayune has a nice write-up on David Breaux, a New Orleans-area high school graduate who's gone on to become a professional animator. Breaux worked as a sculptor design 3-D characters and has since moved on to video games and animated feature films, including this summer's Garfield and next winter's The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. He talks a bit about his background, how he got into animation, and how hand-drawn and computer animation are different, yet similar:

"Because computer animation starts with a skeletal figure, it is harder to distort than hand-drawn figures are, Breaux said.. But the basic concepts that make hand-drawn figures successful still apply to the computer-created characters, he said. 'You have to have a good sense of timing, of weight. You still need good, clear poses.'"
