Animation: Education for an Educated Industry
Education First
Almost 70% of the professionals working in media are degree holders. For animators, this means completing an animation program in illustration, computer animation, web design, or whichever area of animation you love best.
A recent survey by the Sector Skills Council revealed that extensive training is needed for the media industry, which covers all manners of animation, from Saturday morning cartoons to computer animation for video games. About 60% of the media professionals surveyed even thought they’d need additional training to stay qualified.
For instance, basic CAD and layering might have been enough to be an assistant animator on the popular Toy Story from 10 years ago, but a completely different skill set was needed to work on the new A Scanner Darkly, which uses rotoscoping animation overlaid on top of film. Animation programs aren’t just for new animators starting out; they’re for everyone.
Animation Programs
Animation programs are available on-campus and online, in the fall and in the spring, in Los Angeles, California and New York, NY, as well as everywhere in between. If you’re thinking about a career in animation, an education is the first step.
