Animation College Graduates May Face Smaller Job Market
Disney Falls Short in Computer Animation Revenues
Disney basically created and later defined the animation industry. Unfortunately, it didn't embrace computer animation as early as many of its competitors, included Pixar Animation, the leading computer animation studio. Disney has been in a slump, as many of its computer animated movies haven't done nearly as well as Pixar's. Executives at Disney seem to have admitted defeat, and determined that if they can't beat Pixar at its own game, they might as well buy them.
Merger May Hurt Recent Animation College Grads in Short Term
This situation will effectively make competition for top computer animation jobs even tougher. If the two companies merge, management will probably downsize and get rid of duplicate positions. This will put a lot of talented animators out of work, which will make it tougher for recent animation college graduates to break into the field.
Animation Students Can Look Forward to Long Term
Those currently attending computer animation colleges probably groan when they hear the news of this merger, but they can still look on the bright side. Computer animated movies are taking off, and more and more of them are being created each year. Although this merger may create a temporary computer animation job market glut, the long term will probably prove to be pretty lucrative for computer animation college degree holders.
