War of the Animation Worlds
Film Production is Different from Web Site Design
It started me thinking about the differences between film production animation and web site design animation. Because web sites are more static in their nature than films, producing animation needs a different mindset. Animation on web sites is interesting because of the contrast with the basic medium - web pages are essentially to be read, not to be watched - whereas animation for films needs to have the same kind of action as the image of the characters that are played by actors. Not only do the two kinds of animation require different software for their generation and broadcast, they also need a different kind of mentality to be able to produce effective design.Learning about animation is more than simply taking an online course to learn how to use the technology. You need to be able to produce a different psychological effect depending on the medium you choose, and the end product you are manufacturing. Perhaps this explains why some film production web site designs seem to be unfinished and have little impact - the animation may be taken directly from a medium that is not the same as the web site.
I did however find out that War of the Worlds is to be released on the same date as the US - the 29th of June, so as New Zealand is ahead of the US time zones, I will have an opportunity to see it before you.
