Philippines Working to Maintain Lucrative Animation Industry
Competition in Computer Animation Changes Face of Many Animation Schools
Walt Disney Pictures, Hanna Barbera, DreamWorks, and the Cartoon Network all currently outsource some animation work to studios in the Philippines, as well as to other nations. While the amount of outsourced animation work has decreased for the Philippines due to competition, the country still has plenty of it coming in. An organization of the Philippines' largest animation studios, called the Animation Council of the Philippines Inc. (ACPI), recently teamed up with the Philippine government to ensure that the country continues to reap profits from animation. The ACPI wants to ensure that their country's computer animation schools graduate students with skills good enough to meet professional animation expectations. These expectations are changing due to the increasing popularity of 3D computer animation.
Computer Animation Schools Improving With the Help of Better Funding
To be competitive on a global scale, the Philippines must make sure they have enough computer animation schools to churn out enough graduates to meet future labor demands. They must also ensure that computer animation schools train students using state-of-the-art animation software on computers that have enough processing power to handle these high powered programs. Both of these goals require funding. The ACPI and the government are investing a lot of money into current and new computer animation schools in order to better train students for the changing face of animation. This partnership is helping fund new education initiatives, and setting tougher animation education standards to better prepare the students of the schools for the next animation generation.
