Adult Cartoons Animating The Networks
Noticed a recent article ("Adult Cartoons Animating Networks") that lists the new animated shows coming to cable and network TV in the coming months. With sitcoms currently on the skids, networks are turning to animation series to attract primetime viewers. It's not the first time (remember "The PJ's" and the animated "Clerks" series?), but it looks like one of the driving forces this time around is the fact that, with computer animation, it's now vastly cheaper to create an animated series than ever before:
"What's different now is that technological advances in animation make shows both cheaper and quicker to produce. Using desktop computers cuts costs dramatically. And because traditional series are often conceived and written in the United States, then shipped to the Far East for animation, newer methods also means a much shorter production schedule -- six weeks instead of nine months."
