Global Animation Jobs Update
Calling TV Animators
Fox Entertainment currently has a large offering—2 hours (which the Fox president says they’d like to make two-and-a-half) on Sunday nights that they’re looking to fill with animation. The Simpsons and The Family Guy are two hugely successful animation series that made their home on Fox.
Virgin Animation?
Richard Branson, the commercial products king whose Virgin empire has tried nearly everything, is trying something new: animation. Virgin Books Limited is partnering with south Asian authors and filmmakers to develop comics into animation features.
Global Animation
Animation continues to grow in India, with new animation schools, animation jobs, animation studio deals, and animation features debuting every year. Industry leaders in India consider the country a great resource to the $70 billion global animation industry.
The Indian animation studio UTV has been busy, making deals totaling $14 million. It is joining with PorchLight to make “Jay Jay the Jet Plane” into a piece of feature animation. It is also joining with Taffy Entertainment and a French studio for a TV animation series called “Cosmic Quantum Ray.”
Dole is doing its part to support animation abroad, offering tests, and training to the growing animation industry in the Philippines this summer. The country has 4,500 animators presently, and the industry hopes to have 6,800 animation jobs by the end of the year.
