Animation Still Alive and Well in Advertising
There’s a Place for Every Kind of Animation
Cartoon animation can mean much more than simply Saturday mornings. The commercials that run during children’s cartoons advertise toys based on movies and cartoon animation. Bernard Loomis, possibly the biggest toy marketer ever, used to watch Saturday morning cartoon animation as research. Even stick figure animation could find its way into the marketing plan of companies like Mattel, General Mills, and Tyco, given the right situation.
Cartoon animation isn’t just for kids, either; Toyota’s commercials for the new Yaris involve both computer and cartoon animation, and have attracted a lot of attention. As an industry with ties to TV and film, advertising can be a great venue for the educated animator looking to develop a career.
