3D Animation Training: The Education with Legs
The Big Picture - in 3D, Too!
If you always see the big picture and enjoy working in 'broad brushstrokes' then becoming a Concept Designer following your 3D program could be just for you. You'll need to overflow with ideas for interesting game play to challenge people or provoke emotion for a film.
I Want to Tell You a Story
Based on the rough ideas of the Concept Designer and other team members, you will come up with a 'storyboard.' This is a rough and ready draught of how the animation or 3D game will appear.
Walking the Animation Walk
Character and Effects Animators build software models of objects that comprise a scene (e.g. movement of an animal's legs.) They are also responsible for more subtle effects that contribute toward the realism, such as swaying grass. As with all aspects of animation, the biggest challenges lie in the portrayal of the human form including facial expressions, posture, and subtle body language
In the Flesh - Realistic 3D Animation Doesn't Come Easy!
One of the most difficult challenges for an Animator is realistic looking skin tones. Lighting and Texture Mappers are experts in subtle graphics manipulation as consumers demand ever more realistic looking characters in films and games.
Of course, these are only the entertainment related applications of 3D animation training. Opportunities also exist within military virtual reality training programs, as well as other burgeoning areas such as surgical training, and even mobile telephony.
